Q & A
Q&A (Community Mapping Process)
Safety is the number one priority
Make sure your smartphone is fully charged.
What if we have a storm or rain? It is for a short moment, you can wait. If not, please conduct the survey in a car.
Be careful driving, the passenger should be the person to be taking photos and tracking the place that you are surveying. The driver should only be driving to the destination that is being surveyed.
Never enter private property. You can take a photo as long as you are on public property (such as on the road). If you have an access to the property issue, you can skip the survey for that property.
Technical issues
If MapplerK3 is not working with your smartphone, don't panic.
Work with your partners to update data. You can also take photos and notes to update later using your computer.
Communication and coordination
What if it takes a long time to do the survey?
Can take photos first, and enter data later?
Can take a video and enter data later?
When the police ask you what you are doing, how should you respond?
Hello, we are participating in our community day mapping project to assess the food accessibility
When residents ask you what you are doing, how should you respond? Hello, we are volunteers, gathering data for our community mapping research on food accessibility.
Resistance from residents: Some residents may be distrustful of outsiders, or may feel that the survey is not relevant to their needs or concerns. In this case don’t argue, just retreat (of course, saying sorry to bother them).
Data accuracy and completeness
If you can, please take more than one (1) photo of the property.
When recording the data, be sure to keep a record of what place you survey, and have your location on.
The address and location on the map may not match, in that case, need to find the correct address and update points on the map.
